that's right, i said it. for a long time, i've had this secret problem with coming up with what i deem to be clever URLs/domain names, and when i look them up on godaddy and they are available and reasonably priced, i buy them. and then, sometimes i do something with them, like i did with this blog and my SundayLA site, and other times, well, i just have these names sitting there.

but this, my friends, is not a case of that! this post has dual purpose: first and foremost, i bought a new domain name for this blog. i've never LOVED the fact that "knows" is at the end of this blog url, because when i say it out loud to people sometimes they think i mean "nose". and of course, just plain geekgirl was never available to begin with, so recently, i purchased geekgirldotcom.com, and with the redesign of my blog to a full blown site in the works right now, i wanted to come to you guys for a gut check. vote in the poll below and let me know what YOU think!

and the second purpose of this post was to give you guys a sneak peek of what the new site will look like. i was so stoked at finding this amazing new web design tool that is TOTALLY free, that i was inspired to redesign GeekGirl. so in the meantime, here's a tiny sneak peek at what the new site will look like, and i promise that its inaugural post will be about this rad website design software is, and how easy it is to use!

Coldplay+Electronic Wristbands=Most Amazeballs Concert Ever

So, recently i went on a work trip to Chicago, a city which i ADORE. I realized that while i was there, one of my fave bands, Coldplay, was playing at the United Center. It was kismet. i HAD to get tickets.

Now, i've seen Coldplay live probably at least 2 times on each tour (so about 10x total). to say that i'm a superfan would be to understate my excitement for their music and performances. but this concert was different; it contained something i had NOT seen before. and now, concert has forever changed for me going forward: the electronic wristbands.

The Dark Knight Rises: Review+Social Commentary

I just went to see The Dark Knight Rises. At a matinee in a large theatre in Downtown Los Angeles. Before I give you my review, I have to address the obvious question: was I scared, in real life, to go see this movie? What happened at the theatre that was different from the norm?

Last Sunday, if i had asked that question, you'd all think i was insane. But today, on this very day, I can't say that there wasn't a slight tinge of worry in me, given this weeks' assault on humanity in Aurora, Colorado at a midnight show of the film. But, appropriately in line with the battle of Good vs. Evil that is present in any comic book or sci-fi based piece of work, life in the spirit of living on world won. Ironically, during the first big scene where Anne Hathaway's Catwoman is involved--the very scene during which the massacre in Colorado happened--it was at that moment that I allowed myself to be released of my real-world fear and escaped into the film.

We Haz a Sad: Words of Comfort & Wisdom from George Takei

In light of today's terrible tragedy in Aurora, Colorado, I wanted to take a moment to share the above words of comfort and condolence that the great George Takei (Sulu on Star Trek: The Original Series), posted on his always-funny and thoughtful Facebook page.

As a lover of sci-fi and, well, of LIFE in general, I stand with George Takei and mourn the terrible strike against humanity that occurred today.  Those of us here at GeekGirl have the victims and their families in our thoughts and hearts today, and we can't help but feel that in moments like this, we should all take a moment out of our busy lives to tell the people who we love that we love them...even if it's just a "poke" on FB, a Tweet or a text message. Better yet, a hug or a phone call.
