GeekGirl, The Baub Show, Chris Kirkpatrick and a Ustream pre-show!

Hey Gang!

For those of you who haven't heard, I'm lucky enough to have been asked back to co-host The Baub Show tomorrow (Monday, 2/21) night with my dear friend Bob:

Click on the picture above to go to The Baub Show website and see what we've got lined up for you and all about Chris Kirkpatrick from N'Sync and Nigel's 11, who we will be interviewing! You can also call in and talk to us LIVE on the air, or you can chat with us in the show's official chatroom. I will, of course, be Tweeting and chatting LIVE while on the air, as I always do! Fun, right?

And here's the kicker; I've decided that I want to do a special LIVE, Ustream pre-show chat with Baub in honor of his new studio where we will be broadcasting from. Here's a link to my GeekGirlLive! Channel:

We go live on the blogtalkradio show at 7 pm, PST, and we hope do to the Ustream pre-show chat at around 6:30, so make sure to check in with us and join in all the fun!

Talk to you all tomorrow,

Cheers!

Happy Birthday Photoshop!

Hey GeekGirl Gang!

Today, my best digital friend and the buffer between my camera and any photos that end up on Facebook or in a frame, turns 20! How quickly time flies. :) Adobe's Photoshop is a tool that I use every single day in my life, whether for use in my photography, my blog, business purposes or just for creative fun, and in its honor, I am answering YOUR questions! Do you need a tip on how to use a tool or do something in Photoshop? Want to know how to quickly take that ex out of a picture and keep yourself in it? Need help in removing logos or watermarks? Well, I'm your girl for answers. :)

TWEET me @GeekGirlKnows or post a comment here and I will answer them all tonight! Maybe we will even do a special GeekGirlLive video on USTREAM where I answer the questions LIVE! Stay tuned...either way, we will celebrate Photoshop with some fun Q&A today.

And if you have some time, check out all the fun stuff Adobe is doing in celebration of this special day with flashbacks of Photoshop 1.0 all the way through the software's evolution by clicking HERE.

Cheers,

The Horror!

Hey Gang!

Sooo...I recently left my dayjob, and I was able to work out a purchase of my Power PC Mac G5 because basically my whole life was on the machine and even though it was a few years old, it's a really great machine with really upgraded specs. Here's my pride and joy:

Lo and behold, the machine has been sitting in my home office for like a month now (I have 2 other Macs at home. I know. It's ridiculous). I JUST got around to setting this work Mac up to get some files off it (and blowing the fuse--twice--in my home office from overloading my outlets in the process) and came to find that it has NO AIRPORT CARD.

Dun-Dun_Duuuuuun!

WTF?!

How did I not notice this all these years? I suppose it had something to do with the fact that I had it set up on the direct Ethernet LAN at work for internet access and thus I never HAD to search for a wireless network (plus we didn't have one where my office was located). Anyhow, I've been researching my G5 and it's possible to actually install an Airport Extreme Card in it physically and connect to the fancy-schmancy wireless internet in my house that I've grown completely co-dependent on. I've researched and found the diagrams and instructions that I need:

Now here's where you all come in! I'm going to do another LIVE GEEK GIRL BLOGCAST where I will actually install the card in my G5 with you all watching! Gotta love technology. I just ordered the card today, and as soon as it comes, I'll set up the Blogcast with you guys. Probably sometime next week, I'd say!

So stay tuned and email me or post comments below or TWEET at me with any tips, tricks, warnings or suggestions you have on this topic!

Ok gang, lots more GeekGirl content coming in 2010! You might have noticed that the Roddenberry sponsorship logos are gone off the site, and that's because we are flying solo this year! Lot's of changes coming, and hopefully you guys will be right by my side. :)

Cheers,

GeekGirl :)

Blu-Ray Players & Non-HD TV's?

Hey Gang! So, I just got a really good question that came into the old GeekGirl email inbox (geek.girl@earthlink.net for those of you who are new here!), and I thought I'd share it with y'all because it might be a common question: "...quick question for you - do Blu-Ray players work on regular tvs or do you need an HD TV ? there are some great deals on players and I want to pick one up, but my tv isnt HD."

Here was my response:

Blu-Ray players are meant for HD tv’s just because the picture is so stunning and has such great resolution, and thus they come with HDMI cables that eliminate the need for the old RCA (the yellow/red/black/white cables that you currently use for your DVD –to-TV connection. However, I’m pretty sure that you CAN still use the old RCA cables to connect to a regular TV, and then if/when you eventually upgrade to an HDTV, you can just swap the cables.

Just make sure when you buy your Blu-Ray player to check that it has the regular Audio/Video OUTPUTS on the back (most packaging will show you a diagram of the inputs/outputs on the back of the player, and if not just ask someone at the store) and you should be good to go. You should see something like this:

The outputs on the image at the very top left that are green, blue and red are HD outputs, as is the HDMI output at the bottom. But right above that HDMI output is the “LINE OUT” box, which still has either the S-Video option (which works with normal TV’s if you have an S-Video input) or just the standard yellow, red and white video inputs. This means that you can use it with your non-HD Tv!

Hope that helps!
Happy holidays!

Cheers,
GeekGirl
