So, after a long period of anticipation and some technical snafoos, GeekGirl's channel on the incredible SciFi website Roddenberry.com is officially live! Click HERE to go to their homepage and click on the screen grab below to go to MY official channel there!
web design and programming is never easy, even for the simplest of projects, and I'm so happy that the fine folks at Roddenberry.com created such a slick and cool channel for me! The videos you will see there will be exclusive to Roddenberry.com and some will be videos you can also see here, so make sure you check both places!
The actual 1st episode (which you guys saw part of in my episode 10.1) will be up on June 28th and then every other week from that point on there will be a brand spanking-new episode up for your viewing pleasure!
And keep checking here for new blogs about all things tech-related (oh, and the resolution to my Time Warner vs. High Def TiVo battle! Yes, it's FINALLY over and I have TV now!). OH, and 1 last thing...we are going to have our very first official GeekGirl TweetTalk session where I give you a time where I will be live on Twitter and you can ask me questions about tech things you want to know about and get LIVE answers from me! Stay tuned for the Call to Action on that coming up very, very soon!

So I actually need help from all of YOU out there! I have been in HD TiVo H-E-Double Hockey Sticks for a whole week because it turns out that Time Warner cable, (the monopoly that controls cable in my area), is not compatible with my brand new, shiny, HD TiVo.
It took me a week without TV (still counting) and talking to the TiVo people, Time Warner people and multiple cable visits to my house to find out that I actually need a TUNING ADAPTER in order for my TiVo to be compatible with the new cable cards that now replace your cable box. (Here's a picture of what they will supposedly look like, and also if you click on the picture it takes you to an article that tells you more about them:)
But here's the kicker: MY CABLE COMPANY DOESN'T HAVE THEM YET. I'm on a darned waitlist to get one once they do roll them out, and I'm just amazed that NO ONE at Time Warner had ANY idea what I was talking about. Has anyone else had this problem? If so, did you end up getting a tuning adapter? Anyone know where I can even get a trial or beta version of one so I at least have TV for the interim? I'm SOOOOO frustrated and decided that YOU guys out there probably know more than the 20-some-odd people I've spoken with this week about this issues.
HELP! I need your advice, information, personal experiences, etc...anything that will help me have TV during the NBA Playoffs!! email me your info (or post in the COMMENTS section below) at geek.girl@earthlink.net.

Check it out again if you've already watched it-the phrenology head and the laptop always have something to say, and I give you little bits of info in pop-ups along the way that you won't get anywhere else and are exclusive to the YouTube videos!) Or, if you are new here, welcome and check out the video I made just for YOU!

Guess what...? After a few months of discussions and lots and lots of planning, I'm proud to tell all of you that the GeekGirl blog has just gotten an official sponsor! I present to all of you Roddenberry.com:
One of the reasons that posts have been few and far between lately is because I've been working with the fine peeps over at Roddenberry to iron out all of the details! We are going to try this out for a few months and see how it works out! So I would LOVE it if all of YOU would click on the Roddenberry logo above and go check out their website-they have TONS of cool SciFi stuff on there!
And if the name sounds familiar to you, it should! That's because Gene Roddenberry is the creator of one of my favorite things on this planet (aside from gadgets and technology, of course!)...STAR TREK!!! Yes, that's right. STAR TREK. And Roddenberry.com continues the great tradition of SciFi that was born when Star Trek was created.
I will update the blog a little later to let you all know what great new things you can expect now that we have a sponsor! But in the meantime, please check out Roddenberry.com and then come back here and post a comment with your thoughts and questions! Trust me, this is a REALLY good thing that will allow us to grow this blog together!
Keep checking back for more great news and brand spankin' new videos, sponsored by Roddenberry.com!

As you've probably noticed, Twitter is ALL over the place lately and everyone is talking about it!
So I've been trying it out too! I'm even thinking about doing a GeekGirlPodcast about it. What I want to know is how many of YOU out there would benefit from it?
Do YOU want desperately to know what this Twitter thing is all about? Do you hate Twitter and wish that everyone would stop talking about it? Tell me your thoughts on Twitter in the comments section below, and while you are at it, follow me on Twitter and we can learn together!

If you have an iPhone, you MUST check out this really great new app just added! Independently published author Emmett James partnered with an open-source software writer for iPhone apps and converted his whole memoir into HTML code AND it's own, self-contained software app! All of the text and images and chapters are formatted for your iPhone, with digital bookmarks, page breaks, page-turners...the works! Is this the future of books?? I'm not quite sure that I can say that I would like it to be, because if you watched my last video you'd know that I LOVE printed books, however I think this free application and way to read a book is SUPER cool.
All you have to do is use your iPhone and go to the App store. Search "Admit One A Journey" and it will come up with this cover art as the icon:
Click on it to download/install, and the whole book with all of its custom formatting will download to your phone in like 3 minutes and you can start reading! There are even active links within the book (at the end) that will let you link to Amazon and purchase a printed version of the book!
I really am amazed by this technology. It's especially important for independent authors like Mr. James who aren't signed with a big publisher and are forced to fight "The Man" and the discriminatory cycle of publishing via grass-roots marketing efforts like this one. And the best part of it all? It's a very GREEN way to consume media! No trees were harmed in the making of this book! And you all know how much I love eco-friendly technology!
I think this type of self-promotion and ease of application creation for the App Store are a sign of the times and speak loudly to the direction our country and technology are moving in general. I also think it's an incredible way for people to be able to create their works of art, be it books, software, or art proper (in all forms of media, of course!) and get it out to the rest of the world without a middleman. All in all, I really think it's awesome! But what do YOU think?
I'm really curious to hear your thoughts on the subject! Please post them in the COMMENT section below. I might even do another GeekGirl poll to see what you all think so we can compare!
Your mission, GeekGirl Gang, is to 1) go to the app store on your iPhone, download the book, and then rate/review it in the app store. 2) come back here and post in the COMMENTS section below about your thoughts on digital books in this format in general!
Got general questions? Thoughts? Comments? Gripes? COMMENT below or email me @ geek.girl@earthlink.net.

Soooo, you guys have BLOWN ME AWAY with all the iPhone iLikes and iGripes that I've gotten! So much so, that it's taking me a while to edit down the podcast because I can't possibly include them all, but they are all so good it's making it hard to choose! (A great dilemma to have). I am almost done with the editing (I'm also experimenting with a fancy new GREEN SCREEN for my podcasts, so that's adding edit time as well! fingers crossed. if anyone ever wondered how a green screen works, I can explain that to y'all as soon as I'm sure my effort was successful. :)
Anyway, in order to tide you over, as I know you are all eager to hear your emails/comments read on the iPhone podcast, I have a quick little video announcing my new GeekGirl blog URL here, followed by a poll, because I need YOUR help in deciding whether or not I picked the right name! First, watch this (it's super-short, I promise):A URL is a fancy name for a web address (i.e., www.GeekGirlKnows.com or Apple.com or Google.com, etc. etc.). You can actually have your website/blog "living" on one website addy, and then have a "Vanity URL" (a fancy word for a simpler web address) for which you just purchase the domain name, and simply have it "point" or "redirect" to where your website actually lives. (Maybe I'll do a GeekGirl Quickie on how this works if anyone out there is actually interested or curious! Let me know if you are).
To make a long story short, (or rather, a short story long!) since my original URL was really hard to describe to people (http://geekgirlpodcast.blogspot.com) my best friend/co-worker/officemate at the Tonight Show, Ross (check out his blog HERE), and I were brainstorming the other day on a website name that would be super easy and also fun and applicable to me and what I do here around the old GeekGirl blog. SO, we came up with GeekGirlKnows! Just imagine me saying, "You have questions? GeekGirlKnows!" How's that for a tagline? Fun, right?
There's only one slight problem...before we came up with GeekGirlKnows.com, I had purchased the domain GeekGirlPodcast.com. Both of them work right now (watch, open up a new window and type them both in...they magically go to the same place!) Now I'm not sure which one I like better! Here's where YOU guys come in! Below is a poll... give me your input on what name is better for my new URL!
So vote vote vote and tell me what YOU think! The winning name will be used in all of my GeekGirl graphics and promotions!
Stay tuned for the iPhone iLikes and iGripes video podcast starring YOUR questions and comments!!!
Here's a quick message from me, check it out! I need your help:
